About the Artwork
Everyone pictures the same Warhol Marilyn: hot pink, turquoise, the candy-colored one that's basically wallpaper at this point. This isn't that one.
II.24 is the portfolio's outlier, cool greys and near-black laid over a dark ground, more shadow than spectacle. Warhol pulled the same 1953 publicity still for all ten prints in this series and gave each one its own palette. This is the version that reads less like a movie star and more like what's left after the flashbulbs go off.
It's also the one the market keeps rewarding. II.24 currently holds the individual auction record across all ten colorways, a title it took again in April 2026 with a result roughly 44% above the previous high from 2022. It doesn't come up for sale often, which is part of why, when it does, the price tends to move.
Screenprint on paper, 36 × 36 in, from an edition of 250 plus 26 artist's proofs. Additional images and video available on request.
