Never Alone

Never Alone is a night scene: the title appears in red lettering across a black sky scattered with a few small stars, and below it, a tiny figure stands balanced on top of a much larger one. It is the smallest painting in this group at 24 by 24 inches, and the composition uses that scale to its advantage. The smallness of the piece mirrors the smallness of the figure it depicts.

The idea is simple and does not need embellishment: wherever you are, you are never without yourself. Sines lets the image carry the whole argument rather than layering on extra symbolism, which is part of why the painting reads so quickly and sits so easily in a smaller space.

As a unique acrylic on canvas, Never Alone is a compact, self-contained piece, well suited to a collector looking for a smaller Frank Ape work without a smaller idea behind it.
