Nyx, Goddess of the Night reimagines one of Greek mythology's oldest and most powerful figures, but not in her usual mode. Traditional depictions show Nyx traversing the heavens in a chariot; Olivia paints her off duty instead, leaning against a cloud, bathed in moonlight, in a rare moment of repose.
The painting is rooted in Olivia's own relationship with the night. She's candid about her sleep being restless, often populated by stressful, vivid dreams. In her own words:
"Sometimes I would rather be awake at night hanging out with Nyx than being in my weird dreams."
That sentiment turns the painting into a kind of sanctuary for the restless: being awake with Nyx, watching the stars and the moon, reads as a peaceful alternative to the chaos of the subconscious.
Painted on a square canvas, the format emphasizes balance and containment, and the cool, lunar palette captures the specific, ethereal glow that only exists after the sun goes down. It's a piece built for the night owl, the dreamer, and the collector who finds beauty in the quiet hours.
