A Real Cloud

A Real Cloud is a luminous wall sculpture that distills the buoyant, carefree form of a cloud into a permanent, golden monument. Part of Yoni Alter's "Liquid Modernity" series, the work captures the ephemeral—an object defined by weightlessness and impermanence—and casts it in mirror-polished, platinum-plated stainless steel.

The sculpture's clusters of interlocking spheres evoke the billowing, rounded masses of a cumulus cloud, yet rendered in a warm, radiant gold, it becomes something altogether richer: a symbol of optimism, luxury, and the beauty of the everyday. Mounted on a wall, it appears to float with impossible lightness despite its physical weight, creating a quiet tension between material and illusion.

As with all works in this series, the highly reflective surface acts as a mirror, absorbing the colors and light of its environment. The cloud "breathes" differently in every room—glowing amber in warm light, shifting to cooler tones at dusk. It is both a precise object and an ever-changing presence, making it one of the most dynamic works in Alter's practice.
