Eruption

Eruption is the most monumental of Yoni Alter's liquid sculptures: a wall work that seizes the instant a mass of liquid tears free of itself and holds it permanently in mirror-polished steel. Nearly 5 feet across, it trades the warm platinum glow of his earlier splash works for pure silver, a cooler and more architectural finish that reads like mercury caught mid-burst.

Alter builds the composition around violent outward energy. Tendrils whip toward the edges, droplets hang at the exact point of release, and a dense central mass swells forward from the wall as if the eruption is still underway. Each element is hand forged and polished, and that handwork is visible in the continuous, unbroken curves that carry light from one form into the next.

The mirror finish turns the sculpture into a living surface. It takes in the room, the shifting daylight and the viewer, so the work never presents the same image twice. At this scale it does more than hang on a wall. It anchors a space, a single moment of energy made permanent and impossible to walk past.
