Narcissus

"A dialogue between the viewer and the void."

Standing approximately 24 inches tall, Narcissus is a freestanding study in symmetry, gravity, and self-reflection. Named after the mythological figure who became entranced by his own image, the sculpture serves as a physical mirror for the space it inhabits. Its thick, grounded base and expanding crown are connected by a slender, elegant waist—a form that naturally draws the eye toward its polished center.

The brilliance of Narcissus lies in its high-sheen, reflective surface. As the viewer approaches the work, their own distorted reflection becomes part of the sculpture's "skin." Alter has created a piece that is never static; it changes its appearance based on the colors of the room, the movement of the light, and the presence of the observer. The "thickness" at the top and bottom provides a sense of architectural weight, while the fluid curves suggest an object that has been pulled and shaped by invisible forces.

Unlike Alter's more minimalist silhouettes, Narcissus feels deeply organic, almost totemic. It occupies the room as a silent sentinel. By bridging the gap between industrial precision and sensual fluidity, Alter invites the collector to look closer—not just at the work, but at the world reflected within it.
