Linda Zacks has never been particularly interested in what you look like. She wants to know what you're thinking.
FREEDOM is the visualization of a messy thought process — sprawling across three canvases at 144 × 60 inches, it is less a composed painting than an act of radical interiority made visible. The work begins from a simple premise: that every person carries a kind of freedom inside their mind. The freedom to be unique, contradictory, loud or quiet, certain or completely lost. The freedom to wander without arriving anywhere in particular.
Zacks' practice is rooted in what she describes as the raw transfer of thought onto surface — canvas, paper, whatever is available. She is drawn not to appearances but to the forces underneath them: what drives a person, what unsettles them, what enters through the eyes and ears and takes up residence somewhere deep inside. FREEDOM is the attempt to make that invisible interior life legible.
The result is vibrant and overflowing — brimming with questions, contradictions, and competing energies that refuse to resolve. It is, as Zacks puts it, her internal engine: relentless, alive, unwilling to quiet down.
She asks, across the canvas and of the viewer: Is your inner voice loud? Is it relentless?
Hers is.
