The Love portfolio (F&S II.310-312) is often regarded as Warhol's "hush-hush" series—a rare instance where the king of pop culture trades the roar of mass media for the quiet, rhythmic pulse of human intimacy. Produced in 1983, this suite reveals a layer of vulnerability and tenderness that was largely absent from Warhol's more commercial contemporary works.

During an era dominated by the bold, aggressive iconography of the Dollar Sign and Ads series, the Love portfolio was a deliberate pivot. It captures Warhol returning to his foundations as a master draughtsman. The imagery of two figures intertwined is defined by a delicate, hand-drawn line that mirrors the elegance of his 1950s illustrations. By overlaying these sensitive contours with saturated, vibrant blocks of color, Warhol creates a sophisticated tension between the private moment and the public aesthetic.

Why the Complete Set Matters While individual prints from this series appear occasionally, locating a complete set of three with matching edition numbers is a significant rarity. Over the last forty years, the majority of these portfolios were broken up by galleries to be sold as individual pieces.

Furthermore, because the suite was commissioned by Form K.K. in Tokyo, much of the edition remained tucked away in private Japanese collections for decades. A full, matching set allows the collector to experience the "narrative of the embrace" exactly as it was conceived in Warhol's studio and pulled from Rupert Jasen Smith's press in 1983.

Provenance & Condition: This set features matching edition numbers from the original edition of 100. Printed on Rives BFK paper by Rupert Jasen Smith, New York. Presented in gallery-grade frames, preserving the vibrant color saturation and delicate line work characteristic of this 1980s rarity. Additional details upon request.
