About this piece

This collaboration between Shay Kun and Tomer Ganihar reimagines Diego Velázquez’s 17th-century masterpiece through the lens of today’s hyperconnected, hyper-commercialized art world.

The scene is instantly familiar yet radically transformed: the royal court of Spain becomes a contemporary art salon, its walls now adorned with works by Banksy, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, and Frida Kahlo, cultural icons who, like Velázquez himself, defined their eras by pushing the boundaries of what art could mean.

Rendered in Kun and Ganihar’s hyperrealistic precision, every reflection, gaze, and brushstroke becomes a dialogue between past and present, between reverence and rebellion. This mash-up of classical composition and modern iconography reflects the ethos of their joint brand, CONFU$IUS, an East–West narrative that speaks to a new generation of collectors living in a fast-paced, global, and self-aware world.

At its core, Las Confu$ius Meninas is both homage and critique, a witty, layered commentary on fame, art as commerce, and the blurred line between authenticity and spectacle in the modern age.
