Yoni Alter knows New York. His 25-foot sculpture Love Continuum stood at Union Square through the spring and summer of 2025, presented with the city's NYC DOT Art program. His New York skyline image has been sold through the MoMA Design Store, and he's the author of New York: Cityscape Timeline for Prestel. I represent Yoni, and this is one of his new paintings.
Pointillist NYC. Times Square is Times Square at night, the way it looks when your eyes stop trying to focus. Billboards and marquees break into warm gold, orange and teal, a red streak of traffic runs along the bottom, and a dark band of shadow cuts through the middle. Every dot is a hand-painted circle of oil. From across the room it's Times Square. Up close it's pure color.
The canvas runs long and low, almost five feet wide and just two feet tall, so it reads like standing at the edge of the square and taking it all in at once.
