"Si" was created in 2024 as a landmark edition to celebrate Javier Calleja's major solo exhibition at Almine Rech New York. As his first-ever limited edition print collaboration with the prestigious gallery, it serves as a bridge between his Spanish roots and his burgeoning status in the New York art scene.
Unlike Calleja's typical portrait-style works, "Si" (which translates to "Yes" in Spanish) offers a rare glimpse into the artist's creative brainstorm. The composition is designed to look like a vibrant page pulled directly from a sketchbook, featuring a playful, non-linear arrangement of his most iconic motifs: the signature wide-eyed characters that radiate a mix of innocence and mischief, the "Daisy-Headed" personas and recurring UFO motifs that hint at his surrealist influences, and handwritten-style annotations and symbols that give the piece an intimate, work-in-progress energy.
Produced by the renowned MadFaber atelier in Spain, the serigraph utilizes over 40 individually screen-printed colors to achieve its rich, pastel-toned depth. What makes this edition particularly special for collectors is the hand-applied stickers by Calleja himself — a tactile element that ensures each piece carries a direct, physical connection to the artist's hand.
In "Si," the artist leans into his philosophy of "Simple, but not easy." The word "Yes" is more than just a title; it reflects the optimism and spontaneity of his practice, inviting the viewer into a dreamlike world where childhood curiosity remains the most powerful tool for navigating adult reality.
