Happy Warriors

Happy Warriors takes its title directly from Cunniff's song of the same name, and the painting carries that same double meaning: warriors who are happy, resilience that doesn't come at the cost of joy. As the longtime voice of Luscious Jackson, Cunniff has built a career on exactly that tension, and it shows up here in layered text and color rather than melody.

The composition reads as both lyrical and meditative, closer to a mantra than a straightforward image. It's a clear example of Cunniff's ongoing practice of translating a song's emotional register directly into paint, without losing the rhythm that made the original work in the first place.

It's a genuine crossover piece: a painting that carries a real, tangible link back to Cunniff's musical legacy rather than just gesturing at it.
