Love Is Here

Jill Cunniff — the foundational voice of the platinum-selling alt-rock band Luscious Jackson — has always operated at the intersection of sound and sight. In her 2025 work LOVE IS HERE, Cunniff translates the kinetic energy of 90s indie-pop into a 36” × 36” tactile explosion on canvas.

The piece serves as a vibrant visual companion to Cunniff's track "Love Is Here," famously featured on the soundtrack of the 1997 cult classic A Life Less Ordinary starring Cameron Diaz. Much like the film's whimsical, high-stakes romance, the artwork pulses with a sense of urgent sentimentality. Cunniff utilizes the song's lyrics — "I've got a magic ray that reads you like a book" — not just as text, but as a structural element. The handwriting, rendered in bold oil marker, carries the same rhythmic phrasing found in her vocal delivery: a mix of street-smart grit and ethereal optimism.

LOVE IS HERE is a sophisticated evolution of the "zine" culture that defined the 90s underground. The composition is a complex dialogue between saturated acrylics, multimedia collage, and gestural oil marker — raw, unfiltered lettering that bridges the gap between fine art and graphic street aesthetics.

For collectors of contemporary pop art and music memorabilia, this piece represents a rare convergence. Jill Cunniff's work captures the "Indie Sleaze" revival through a firsthand lens, offering a piece of Alt-Rock history reimagined for the modern gallery space. LOVE IS HERE is more than a painting; it is a 36-inch anthem of resilience and romantic defiance, proving that for Cunniff, the melody has simply moved from the airwaves to the canvas.
