In Creative Process, contemporary New York artist Linda Zacks turns the lens inward, transforming the very tools of her trade into the subject of her art. This hand-embellished diptych is a high-energy celebration of the "raw and the messy"—a visual record of the artist's fingerprints left behind on the road to creation.
The diptych format offers two distinct windows into the studio:
The First Panel: A central brush is engulfed by a feverish rush of handwritten thoughts and ink splatters. It’s a visual journal that captures the frantic, beautiful moment when a concept first hits the paper.
The Second Panel: A vibrant lineup of ink bottles, scanned directly from Zacks’s studio table. These aren't just supplies; they are artifacts. Every smudge and dried drip on these bottles represents a past work and a memory of the artist’s hand in motion.
Zacks’s mixed media process is a cycle of destruction and rebirth. She takes her worn-down stencils, brushes, and bottles, then scans, prints, crumples, and rewrites over them until the line between "tool" and "artwork" disappears. Creative Process is a love letter to the act of making: layered, imperfect, and pulsing with the energy of a studio in full swing.
