Striving

Striving shows Frank in a deep purple hue, climbing out of rubble, a direct visual metaphor for resilience. It is the only work on paper in this collection, rendered in gouache and acrylic on Arches archival paper rather than the canvas or panel Sines uses elsewhere, which gives the piece a softer, more immediate surface.

The color and the climbing pose carry the emotional weight here. Purple reads as both regal and bruised, and the pose itself, mid-climb rather than triumphant, keeps the piece honest about what resilience actually looks like in progress rather than resolved.

This is a unique, signed work on paper, and one of the most emotionally direct pieces in the collection.
